CPS Med/Peds Begins 24-hour Service at Berkshire Med
In October, CPS began partnering with Berkshire Medical center on a new service line providing hospitalists who are double-boarded in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. The program began gradually, but on Jan. 29, CPS began providing 24-hour coverage for pediatric patients. The majority of pediatricians in the Pittsfield area will be using the service, giving them more time to focus on their office practices.
For Berkshire, the service allows them to maximize the efficiency of their physicians by using doctors who can care for both adult and pediatric patients. This supplements the hospital’s adult hospitalist program and relieves pressure from pediatricians on their medical staff who had been providing inpatient and outpatient care. It also give the hospital’s emergency department immediate access to trained pediatric experts. In addition, the hospital will be able to treat patients from outlying areas whose pediatricians are not on staff, which means less travel time and less inconvenience.
The service is off to a rousing start with the hospital’s pediatric unit seeing much higher volumes than in the past. Congratulations to Dr. Mark Jankowske, who developed the service, and his outstanding team of med/peds physicians.
